FAQ’s
Do all homes in Townsville need interconnected smoke alarms?
Yes, all all homes in Townsville and across Queensland must have interconnected smoke alarms by January 1, 2027. Alarms must be photoelectric (complying with Australian Standard AS3786-2014) and interconnected, when one alarm goes off, every alarm in the home must sound.
How many smoke alarms does my home need?
- Every bedroom: Each individual bedroom must have its own smoke alarm.
- Connecting hallways: Hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the home must have an alarm. If there is no hallway, an alarm must be placed between the bedrooms and the exit paths.
- Every level/storey: At least one smoke alarm must be installed on every storey or level of the dwelling
Do I need an electrician to install my smoke alarms?
Yes, you will need one of our Townsville licensed electricians if your smoke alarms are hardwired to the 240V mains power supply. Handling your home’s electrical wiring is dangerous and highly regulated. Any installation, replacement, or maintenance involving mains power requires our qualified electrical team.
